Vacation 2007

We picked up our 5-W up the Pecos River from our kids and headed northwest to Santa Fe. Our first stop was "Bobcat Bite", a little kind of "hole-in-the-wall" cafe that Bon Apetite Magizine had just awarded the honors of one of the top five hamburgers in the country. After an hour wait, we did enjoy a delectable meal. It just needed a nice, big, freshly roasted chili on it!

Santa Fe was having the Annual Indian Market Day so the traffic was pretty hectic. Indian Market is something people come to from all over the world to see. Well, we'd seen Indian jewelry, Indian art and Indian dancing in the square and we figured this would be the same, just more of it so we decided not to look for a place to park our long load in Santa Fe! We opted to head north and we ended up at El Vado Reservoir about 20 miles south of Chama. We had no idea what we would find when we made the left turn to a sign that said "El Vado Reservoir - 14 miles" but we were in for a treat!! This was a LOVELY, serene place to park. We stayed three days! The air was absolutely delectable! The water was so inviting, it made me with for a ski boat or ski doo! I'd been happy for an air mattress so I put that on my camper list! This was a significantly large reservoir, not beautiful if compared to high mountain lakes but beautiful for New Mexico standards. This photo was taken from my camper step. There was about a ten foot drop off to the rocky beach area.
