Last night at Clovis High Phil reports the Wildcat Basketball game featured Hank Baskett Night and retired his Wildcat jersey. It was a neat time and I wish I had a picture but even the paper did't post one on the net. Of note is the fact that not only was Hank a great kid, he graduated with a 4.0 G.P.A. from high school and a 3.79 from college! He was and is a model citizen and a Christian.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver and former Clovis High standout Hank Baskett had his No. 18 Wildcats football jersey retired during halftime of the Carlsbad-Clovis boys basketball game Tuesday night, with a packed Rock Staubus Gym cheering on his achievements. A proclamation declaring Tuesday “Hank Baskett Day” from Clovis Mayor David Lansford was read to the crowd, listing all of Baskett’s accomplishments from high school to the present. “It’s amazing, it's almost like playing in the NFL,” said Baskett of being honored in his home town. “There’s so many greats to come through here, and just to be chosen to have this day and my jersey retired — it just shows I’ve earned a lot of people’s respect.” A white Clovis football jersey was hung in the main lobby of the gym, along with Baskett’s Eagles jersey. Clovis football coaches Eric Roanhaus and Darren Kelley also presented a purple Wildcats jersey to Baskett and his parents, Hank Jr. and Judy.

High School information:

HIGH SCHOOL Baskett, a 2001 graduate of Clovis High School in New Mexico, was an extremely versatile and bright student-athlete who competed in football, basketball, and track, and also had a 4.0 GPA. Hank played six games at QB and 4 at WR for Coach Roanhaus. He was a second team all-state punter and receiver as a senior. He punted all three years and was considered one of the nation's top schoolboy high jumpers with a state-record lead of 7 feet at the 2000 state track meet in Albuquerque. Baskett also won the title as a senior at 6-11 and jumped 7-00.25 at a meet in May. During the basketball season he averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds a game for the Wildcats. Baskett earned second team all-state honors on the court as a junior and also the Wildcats athlete of the year.
