Life lessons Can't Be Missed

Still no electricity here. That means no running water but hey, things are not bad and could be so much worse!

As I drive down our road 1/2 mile to the highway and turn north toward town, the devastation. immediately visible, is unbelievable in comparison to home, where the wind didn't even move the tumbleweeds! You can't miss the illustration there:

Life lessons in a storm are everywhere. First of all, we were warned! We had at least an hour of knowing a twister was coming our way. Paying attention to the warnings could have saved some injury, I'm sure. Of course, we knew because we were watching t.v. - a basketball game to be exact. Life lesson: some aren't even tuned into the place where warnings come. Much less paying attention to them.

Life lesson two: Tornadoes hit randomly. It is just amazing as I drive down the streets to see a home obliterated next to one that hasn't even been touched! You just never know when a storm will hit. Thirty-five homes have been completely destroyed in Clovis.

Life lesson three: This is so obvious, it's not even funny but the old, shabby and flimsy homes got it the worst. Mobile homes, metal buildings and old shabby places twisted and flattened. Well built homes for the most part stayed in tact with some roof damage. The parable of the homes built and the rocks and on the sand resounds quite clearly.

Number four: Cluttered junky places take a lot more clean up and boy do they ever look like disaster areas! Life lesson: Keep yourself cleaned-up, devoid of clutter and trash. When storms it, the up kept lives bounce back quicker.

Finally, one thing that is interesting. There are homes which, until Friday, were nearly hidden because of the tall trees which have grown for decades up, around and over them. They are now completely gone and the once dense forest surrounding the homes are no more. The home is open and bare for all to see. I can't help but be reminded that someday a storm will come and expose us for all to see. The Bible says in the judgement day, even everything said in secret will be heard by everyone! It pays to pay attention to our lives to live in such a way that when all hear and see and/or the storms of life come, we won't be ashamed! Oh, and all those trees that were so big for everyone to admire, they didn't have but little root system. You figure that one out!
