A Wonderful Lord's Day!

Sunday was a great day in the Lord! It started out with an extra hour - hum, a day with an extra hour - such a nice thing! (I am always relieved I didn't die during DST and wasn't cheated out of one hour of life! :) Well, anyway...

The praise and worship was wonderful, and lively at church. Our teens are on fire for the Lord and during this time they line up across the front, actively involved in worship! Pastor David preached a great sermon on the first Beatitude - on being spiritually poor in spirit - utterly poverty stricken without the Lord and how it's where we need to be to experience Him to the fullness. His sermons have depth and truth. I'm always amazed at his delivery - polished, devoid of the need for notes. It's a good thing it was so good, though, my long morning in addition to attendance of the late service was catching up with me and I had to fight sleep!

After church we hosted our two children's worker volunteers for lunch. They are both young adults and turned on to kid's ministry. Boy I love to hear that! We had bbq ribs, corn on the cob, twice baked potatoes, baked beans, green beans (the fresh cooked kind), homemade potato bread, lemon balm tea made with herbs from Phil's garden and "Peanut Butter, Brownie Sensation Ice Cream" (store bought). Hold your applaud!

Our afternoon ended much too quickly. We returned at church for our "once a month" praise and worship service. Wow! It was great! Our praise teams rocked the walls and the youth really got into it. I have to admit, some of the music was beyond my preference of contemporary BUT IT'S NOT, I REPEAT, NOT ABOUT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The front of the sanctuary was lined with high school and college students sing, praising and sometimes jumping up and down in enthusiasm for the love of the Lord.

On one side of the sanctuary were two rows of men from the Lighthouse Mission's Drug Rehab center. It was obvious, they had discovered the joy of the Lord, also. My mind went back two years ago when I visited the Dreamcenter in Los Angeles. The worship services there similarly included the "in house" discipleship groups of rehabilitated - transformed - down and outers. What an incredible impact they make on a service!!! Best of all, there were numerous races in attendance and active participation. The unity in spirit could not be missed. I had only wished we celebrated a bread breaking feast. It would have fit perfectly! I'm reminded of an old saying, "If this doesn't like your fire, your water's wet!

First Birthday!

Sunday, October 15th marked the first anniversary of my church, Legacy Life Family Church! Wow! What an exciting day! Our attendance has averaged around 170 and in the past few months well over 200. God is moving! Our youth group is running 80 kids on Wednesday nights with 20 adults.

Our church was birthed out of a union of two predominately different cultures and has a strong multi-cultural blend. This is my dream church! Our church is located right down on Main street in the heart of old Clovis. We are there where the hurting is and want to make a difference for Jesus there!

Our pastor was able to introduce his new son, Joel Peter that morning! What a blessed day we had!

Happy, Happy Bufday!

Wondafu Bufday!
Even tho Phil's being sick put a damper on my "bufday", celebrating it with Hudson and Hannah, Rusty, Lesli and Mom, made it really fun!

Low Maintenance Friends

Low Maintenance Friends

This week some very special friends came to visit. They live in Colorado Springs. We like to tease Ralph about gassing up his rig where he can get a free coke. He has such a GREAT sense of humor! He COULD tease us about how "high maintenance" we are but he is too sweet to do that! Nadine is a great listener with lots of compassion. They were the first to get us on 4 wheelers in the mountains. Another neat quality is they are dog lovers, too! They chased us all over Alaska and never caught us. Probably because they stopped to take 4500 pictures! Now THAT's over the edge!

Love you guys! Come back soon!

Grand, Grand Kids

Who says a treadmill is only good to hang clothes on!
"O.K. Hannah, I'll dump'um on dis end and you catch um in a baket on da udder end!"

TWO X TWO

Having two, two-year old twin grandchildren is a trip! We enjoyed them so much this week! Our grandson wore a shirt yesterday which read, "It seemed like a good idea at the time!" I'm quite sure that response will come in handy many times in the future!

Hannah was promised a visit to Granny's teapot display wherein candy was kept, after her nap.

Go Wildcats!

Undefeated ACU Wildcats beat undefeated WT Buffs! And our nephew caught a touchdown pass!

No. 20 ACU Hands Buffs First Loss of the Season
In front of a national TV audience for the first time since the 1960, the No. 6 West Texas A&M football team jumped out to a 15-0 first quarter lead, but No. 20 Abilene Christian overcame the early deficit to hand WTAMU its first loss of the season, 49-33, in front of 13,641 fans at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

Ruidosa

This past weekend we visited best friends in Ruidoso, NM - a resort community in the mountains of southern New Mexico. We did a variety of things including going to a community Oktoberfest on Saturday....

....looking at a cabins for investment property - on a whim and not terribly seriously...

and on Sunday attending a small church held in the back of a store. It had a GREAT praise band strongly resembling Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Their Sunday bulletin read: "Jesus, Jamin, Java and Jazz!". There was a wonderful spirit of worship and excellent message from their pastor.
Unfortunately, the great picture I got of our wonderful friend, Bruce, woofing down a bratwurst, wasn't light enough. We loved spending time with Bruce and Beth and look forward to wonderful times there in the future!
(We are not featured in the photo of "chicken hat German beer drinkers!" These "happy Krauts" were more than willing to pose for me!

Fifty-Five and Still Alive

Fifty-five and very much alive!

I'm launching this "post-Alaska" blog on my fifty-fifth birthday since it seems to be a significant mile post in one's life. I can't believe I'm THAT old! I mean, my "AARP" card should arrive any day now and I can save fifty cents on meals at Furr's Cafeteria with the senior's discount! Yippee!! That old phrase, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!" has never been so significant. I guess since I'm probably in the significant minority of "elderly" who blog - most don't even know what the term means - I should be consoled.
